If you’ve previously attended an Issues Committee meeting, the meeting link will be sent out on the day of the meeting. Or sign up now.
This month’s meeting, led by Marthaellen Florence, will be centered on unpacking invisible privileges. If you haven’t unpacked them before, the effects of privilege that make your life easier are invisible to you. The material for the discussion is taken from the work of Dr. Peggy McIntosh, a women’s study scholar, well-known American feminist, anti-racism activist, and founder of the National SEED Project (Seeking Educational Equity and Diversity).
Participants will explore how both privilege and oppression shape the way we interact with the world or, rather how the world interacts with us. The discussion will include understanding and defining privilege; privilege beyond race and examining our personal blind spots within privilege. This highly interactive session is one hour in length.
